WineTime Ushers in Budapest Spring

 by Gary Lukatch

WineTime celebrated the warm weather with a tasting at the British Embassy on Friday, March 26th. Once again, more than 150 wine lovers attended the event, which  offered premium sweet and dry wines from the Hilltop Neszmély Winery. The Embassy’s Old Banking Hall was the perfect venue for this month’s tasting, and sparkled with brilliant lighting, dazzling glassware and tempting snacks from Me-ko Catering.

Arriving guests were greeted with a welcoming glass of Irsai Oliver white wine to whet the palate. The evening then progressed to a classical music presentation by local pianist Eva Polgar and flautist Ilona Plajner, which enthralled the listening audience.

After the initial social networking and mingling, greeting old friends and meeting new ones, the main event of the evening began. The tasting this month started off with glasses of Cserszegi Fűszeres 2009. Another white wine followed, a Cabernet Sauvignon, after which a light ruby-red Merlot Rosé was served. Next came the reds, a Merlot-Kékfrankos and another Cabernet Sauvignon, this time of 1999 vintage. Finally, a wonderfully fruity golden Hárslevelű late harvest 2006 rounded out the selection of wines for the event.

Additional attractions during the evening included bespoke clothing samples from Stan Ajuha Fine Couture for Men and evening dresses by Tóth Bori Fashion for women. As usual, drawings were held from business cards placed in a bowl. Prizes from British Pantry and Fox Autorent were won by several guests and the top prize, a gift certificate for Tóth Bori luxury women’s shop, was won by Erika Puskás.

With the (we hope!) coming of spring and nice weather to Hungary, WineTime will once again begin offering its tours and other special wine-themed events to Budapest’s wine aficionados.  Information on all WineTime events can be found on its website at www.winetime.hu.
